Chardonnay/ Fehér burgundi/
Pinot bianco/ Kereklevelű
Chardonnay originated from France, was named after a little village in South Burgundy. Might be the most popular white, perfect base for sparkling wines in Champagne, North Italy and Hungary; spicy whites from Austria and Germany, whereas most of the barrique matured whites from California and the New World are all based on the Chardonnay sort.
The Chapter from Pécs has brought this Sort into Hungary in the end of the 19th Century from France. It took larger surfaces in the 70’s, whereas nowadays became the number one white wine, even if it is not that easy-to-treat from the point of the growers. Small clusters with huge leafage, to a mid-level it is sensitive against illnesses and brown rot.
